新聞說，Dr Seuss 的童書作品中，有六本將會停止再版，原因是它們被批評為作品 hurtful portrayals of cultural stereotypes。據說，Dr Seuss 的童書 98% 的角色都是白種人，而有色人種只佔 2%，而這 2% 都是男性，而且：Males of color are only presented in subservient, exotified, or dehumanized roles，他們都是以刻板的形象出現，見下圖。
原來我家孩子非常喜歡、家傳戶曉的 The Cat in the Hat （不屬於被停止再版的六本）也被批評帶有歧視成分：
The Cat’s physical appearance, including the Cat’s oversized top hat, floppy bow tie, white gloves, and frequently open mouth, mirrors actual blackface performers; as does the role he plays as ‘entertainer’ to the white family—in whose house he doesn’t belong.（見最尾一張圖）
我和孩子看 The Cat in the Hat 時真的從來沒有想起過黑臉裝扮（blackface）的表演者，甚至一直只覺得它不過是一隻神奇的貓；而他在上述 6 本作品中所繪的東方人 — 穿木屐、咪咪眼、束辮子、手拿著筷子和湯麵，大概我家孩子只視之為搞怪角色而已；而在 Yerka 島上兩個類似猴子的角色是否令孩子對非洲人產生或強化偏見呢，其實我之前也全沒有想過；這些形象是否含有歧視、貶低、羞辱的視角，存在很大的爭議性吧。
